| Water Resources Planning Organization - WARPO | |||
The Water Resources Planning Organization (WARPO) is an agency of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh under the Ministry of Water Resources. WARPO is a key organization of the Government dealing with nation wide water resources planning and management and thus forming an apex body in the water sector. The mandates outline WARPO as the macro-level planning organization for integrated water resources management (IWRM), which is broadly recognized as the framework to address the issues of water resources for its wise use and development. In 1983 Government created Master Plan Organization (MPO) with a mandate to prepare a National Water Plan. MPO become WARPO under act no. xii of 1992. Flood Plan Coordination Organization (FPCO) was created in 1989 and has been merged with WARPO in January 1996. WARPO is a multi-disciplinary organization with a team of 44 professionals from a wide range of disciplines. The WARPO Act 1992 and the National Water Policy of the Government of Bangladesh mandated and assigned various important responsibilities. These are grouped into two categories, namely: routine core function and periodic function. All those responsibilities are summarized below: |

| The core functions will have to be performed on a day-to-day basis and the periodic functions are those that will occur from time to time. The intention of the Government is to build WARPO as a centre of excellence in the water sector. | |||
