Lt. Col. (Retd.) Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Bir Protik, psc, MP, Hon’ble State Minister, Ministry of Water Resources, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was born in a illustrious Muslim family of Narsingdi district on 3rd August 1951. He is the youngest son of Dr. Abdul Hakim Bhuiyan and Begum Akhter-Un-Nessa.
Mr. Nazrul who is a freedom fighter always keeps himself engaged in the betterment of the people of this country. He was elected Member of Parliament (MP) in the 9th (2008-2013) and 10th (2014-2019) National Parliament Election.
In 1971, he joined the great liberation war of Bangladesh while he was a student of Dhaka University and was awarded the Bir-Protik gallantry award for his valiant contribution as a freedom fighter. During the liberation war he was commissioned in Bangladesh Army and before his voluntary retirement in 1991 he served this force in various capacities such as a commanding officer of Infantry Regiments, staff officer at the Army Headquarter & Divisional Headquarters and as an instructor in the Bangladesh Military Academy. He also worked in Bangladesh High Commission, London as Assistant Military Adviser.
Mr. Nazrul has visited a lot of countries like India, UK, USA, Canada, France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Yugoslavia, Netherland, Switzerland, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, UAE, Kenya, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Philippines, Myanmar, Egypt & Pakistan.
Mr. Nazrul is blessed with one son and one daughter. His wife Farzana Nazrul is a house wife.
